What is your IELTS teaching experience?

I’ve been teaching IELTS since 2010 and ran my own IELTS academy in Seoul.

Laurie lived in Seoul, South Korea for 11 years.

Describe your teaching style.

Energetic and humorous. If the students are laughing, they’re learning.

What is the most common mistake students make with IELTS?

Trying to be honest and pausing too much. In the Speaking section, you must lie. I don’t care if you can’t remember the last movie you watched; just tell me it was Star Wars and describe that.

And the best way to improve your IELTS score?

Learn the band descriptors and work out how to take each step. If you’re a band 5 student, focus on achieving band 6 before band 8.

Okay. Enough of the boring stuff. What are your hobbies?

Playing with my twins, watching sport and drinking beer. Not at the same time, or I’d be a terrible father.

I love watching football (Sheffield Wednesday), baseball (Doosan Bears) and boxing. I enjoy playing darts.

Laurie is a keen darts enthusiast.

Lastly, what are your plans for the future?

To grow Knox Study into the best online resource for IELTS, helping students have fun while they learn.
